KUALA TERENGGANU: A Terengganu lawmaker has called for the expulsion of undergraduates at a university here, suspected of being involved in distributing sex toys and operating a prostitution ring.

In describing the development as “disturbing”, state Deputy Education, Higher Learning, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman Zawawi Ismail said the Terengganu government wanted these students booted out if they were found to be involved in such immoral activities.

“I have received tip-offs about sexual escapades involving undergraduates but I never expected it to be so serious.

“This trend is totally unacceptable as it could lead to a degeneration in the quality of graduates produced by local universities,” he said here yesterday.

Zawawi also called on the management of the university to probe the claims by its ex-student about a sex syndicate operating to cater exclusively to the sexual needs of undergraduates.

He also urged those who had been approached by their seniors offering sex services or with sex toys to lodge police reports.

“There is nothing to be afraid of.

“We will ensure their safety as the paramount importance now is to get to the bottom of the allegation,” he said, adding that some villagers had previously complained to the authorities about the immoral activities of some undergraduates.

Zawawi was commenting on an allegation by Amrie Amanah, who recently graduated from the university with an information technology degree, that sex toys were being sold for as low as RM50 by a group of seniors in clandestine transactions, often outside the varsity’s compound.

He also claimed that the seniors had links with other universities in the east coast and that they even arranged for sexual partners for a sum.

Amrie also accused them of hav-ing sourced the gadgets from a neighbouring country and stored them at a home in Gong Badak here . The Star
